About Dr. Nathan Orvets

Dr. Orvets is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over a decade of experience specializing in shoulder and elbow care. He provides comprehensive, patient-centered treatment for a wide range of conditions—from rotator cuff tears and upper extremity fractures to shoulder and elbow arthritis and instability caused by sports, work, or wear-and-tear injuries. He is trained in the latest minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques as well as advanced joint replacement procedures.

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Orvets earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech. While volunteering at a local clinic, he discovered his passion for medicine and went on to earn his medical degree from The Ohio State University. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Boston University and Boston Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Orvets is an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, a prestigious professional society dedicated to advancing shoulder and elbow care through education, research, and collaboration.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Orvets is now happy to call Portland his home. Being interested in math and science, Dr. Orvets attended Virginia Tech, where he received a degree in electrical engineering. While volunteering at a local clinic in Virginia, he found his calling: serving others by providing exceptional medical care. He attended medical school at The Ohio State University, where he was drawn to orthopedic surgery – a field that incorporates biomechanics and hands-on medicine in an effort to improve patients’ quality of life. Dr. Orvets completed an orthopedic residency at Boston University and Boston Medical Center, followed by additional specialty training in shoulder and elbow surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. For over a decade, he has focused his practice on shoulder and elbow surgery, combining patient care and innovation with anatomical knowledge and hands-on medicine. Dr. Orvets is honored to have been recognized as a Portland Monthly Top Doc in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Trained as an orthopedic surgeon with a focus on shoulder and elbow surgery and with over ten years of experience in this subspecialty, Dr. Orvets’ practice involves both non-operative and operative care of all shoulder and elbow ailments including rotator cuff tears, upper extremity fractures, shoulder and elbow arthritis, and shoulder dislocations from sporting injuries, work injuries, or gradual “wear and tear.” He is trained in the latest arthroscopic techniques as well as joint replacement surgery for both the shoulder and elbow. Dr. Orvets enjoys educating patients about their treatment options – and empowering them to play an active role in the care they receive. He believes that all patients deserve individualized treatment plans that offer them the best chance of recovery, and he is glad to work for an organization that embraces this philosophy.
